Evaporation Dam Lift
Scope
Construction and compaction of a 300mm lift on an existing evaporation pond to increase site water management capacity.
Approach
Integrated Trimble GPS machine control directly with the dam engineering models. This allowed our operators to build the lift with millimeter accuracy, ensuring correct batter angles and layer thicknesses without manual staking. Stringent moisture conditioning and compaction protocols were enforced at every layer.
Challenge
Adding an extension to an existing dam structure requires maximum compaction control to prevent foundational seepage and catastrophic breaches. Working on active retaining walls meant safety margins were narrow and material placement had to be exact.
Outcome
Successfully increased the storage capacity of the evaporation ponds without disrupting site operations. Final as-built surveys confirmed 100% adherence to the geotechnical design with zero rework required.
